Gender Mainstreaming in Micro-hydro Project in Rambukkoluwa Sri Lanka, July 2009
The gender mainstreaming into the Rambukkoluwa energy project was initiated as a follow up to the training workshop held in Chiangmai, Thailand in 2007. Rambukkoluwa micro-hydro project was selected for piloting the gender mainstreaming and also to produce a case study involving the stakeholders who have been engaged in providing renewable energy solutions for the communities who do not have access to the national grid to obtain electricity. The micro hydro project was started in April 2007 to install and commission a 10 Kw power plant to generate electricity for local use.
ENERGIA Gender mainstreaming in Energy Projects Liquid Biofuels and Pico Hydro – Gender Action Plan, Sri Lanka 2011
Practical Action’s work on Enhancing Renewable Energy Options (EREO) works towards generating energy from Liquid Bio Fuels (LBF) and Pico hydro to meet energy needs of isolated rural poor and marginalized people. The project emphasises on how these technologies can be harnessed, improved and successfully integrated into the social system using a community based development and management approach.
National Training Workshop on Mainstreaming Gender Concerns in Energy Projects in Sri Lanka, 2009
The National Training Workshop on Mainstreaming Gender Concerns in Energy Projects in Sri Lanka, was held in December, 2009. The training workshop was a continuation of a series of training workshops conducted by ENERGIA. The primary aim of the training workshop was to build the capacities of energy practitioners to mainstream gender considerations in planning and implementing energy projects and programmes. The primary focus was on introducing gender as a concept, gender links with energy services, gender analytical tools and indicators for monitoring and evaluation.
Impact Assessment of Energy Technologies in Empowering Women in Sri Lanka, 2008.
ENERGIA supported a program to strengthen the Sri Lankan Gender and Energy Network – the National Network on Gender and Energy (NANEGE), in partnership with the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. The duration of the program was between November 2007 and June 2008. The main activities that took place under this project were: a technology review; field research in rural communities; analysis of the field research and publication of a report; and a gender and energy workshop involving key stakeholders.
